Mold Discovered at West End Apartments

Kelly Reis, owner and operator of Blue Kangaroo Packoutz of Greensboro, recently arrived at West End Apartments to address a mold outbreak in one of the units. The complex, located just past MaGerk’s Pub on West Lebanon Avenue, is owned by RedStone Property Management and is not affiliated with Elon University. The mold outbreak was isolated to one apartment, and RedStone Property sent a message to residents to address the situation.

According to Reis, the mold outbreak was caused by the air-conditioning unit being left on all summer in the affected apartment. This led to a medium to heavy mold infestation, requiring the disposal of items that were covered in mold and unable to be cleaned. The cleaning crew is currently in the process of removing all contents from the apartment, with plans for a separate restoration team to come in and clean the mold source at a later time.

In response to the situation, RedStone Property assured residents that the mold issue is isolated to the one apartment and will not affect other units in the building. The message emphasized that the apartments do not share ductwork, HVAC systems, or air space, further confirming that the incident was a result of improper use of equipment. RedStone Property is actively working to resolve the issue fully and promptly.

For students or residents returning to their dorms or apartments, Reis strongly advised against leaving air-conditioning units on around the clock. She recommended setting the AC to „auto“ mode and adjusting it to the desired temperature, as constant running can create condensation and excess water, leading to mold growth. Reis highlighted the importance of proper AC usage to prevent future mold outbreaks.

In conclusion, the mold outbreak at West End Apartments serves as a reminder of the importance of proper maintenance and usage of air-conditioning units to prevent mold growth. RedStone Property is taking steps to address the issue and ensure the safety and well-being of its residents. Moving forward, residents are encouraged to follow guidelines for AC usage to maintain a healthy living environment.
